Barrick Australia’s Julie Shuttleworth has celebrated International Women’s Day in style, having been named Women in Resources champion by the Chamber of Minerals and Energy.
CME chief executive Reg Howard-Smith presented the award at a breakfast ceremony this morning.
Mr Howard-Smith said the award winners were great examples for women considering a career in the resources sector.
Other winners included Chevron’s Jenna Robertson, who was named outstanding young professional, while Toro Energy’s Vanessa Guthrie was named outstanding professional.
Newmont Mining’s Jodie Gray won the operator/technician category, while Chevron’s women in engineering program was named most outstanding initiative.
The CME’s people’s choice award was also won by Ms Shuttleworth.
“Women are increasingly choosing a career in the resources sector because it provides potential for career advancement, great pay, global travel and a work-life balance,” Mr Howard-Smith said.
“CME will continue to advocate for more women in resources, not only as a way to address the current and future skills shortages, but because companies are recognising the power of a diverse workforce.”
