Dr Ruth Shean has been appointed as the new Commissioner for Public Sector Standards.
Premier Alan Carpenter said Dr Shean had been appointed for a five-year term, commencing Monday, May 28.
Mr Carpenter said Dr Shean brought to the role 23 years of senior executive experience in both the public and private sectors.
"Dr Shean has a proven track record in managing complex organisations and her breadth of experience is a significant and valuable asset to the Office of the Commissioner for Public Sector Standards," he said.
Dr Shean is currently the acting director general, Department for Community Development, a position she has held since November 2006.
The Premier said Dr Shean had been instrumental in leading the structural transformation of the department from a single entity to the establishment of the Department for Communities and the Department for Child Protection.
"This reform will significantly and positively impact on the delivery of community and children's services within Western Australia," Mr Carpenter said.
Dr Shean has also been the Director General of the Disability Services Commission for eight years since 1999.
From 1990 until 1999, Dr Shean held the position of chief executive officer, Cerebral Palsy Association of Western Australia and preceding this role, was the executive director of the Australian Council on Smoking and Health from 1984-1989.
Dr Shean holds a Bachelor of Education, Masters of Education and a Doctor of Philosophy.
The Premier thanked the current commissioner, Maxine Murray, for her contribution to the public sector.
