Seashells Hospitality Group has taken out the 2008 Heritage Council Award for its restoration work on the Caves House Hotel in the South West.
The award was for outstanding conservation and/or interpretation of a place listed in the State Register of Heritage Places.
Originally known as Yallingup Caves Accommodation House, the property was originally opened in 1905, after construction commenced in 1903. After two fires in 1930 and 1933, it was rebuilt as it stands today, and opened again in 1938. Since then, it has remained as a regional landmark.
Seashells Hospitality Group Managing Director, Paul King said, "This award is an incredible honour, as throughout the restoration process our resolve was to maintain Caves House Hotel's unique historic values, ensuring its long term future and benefit to the people of the region. This award cements the fact that we have achieved what we set out to do and I'm very proud of that, particularly from a community perspective."
The annual Heritage Council Awards recognise individuals and organisations making a significant contribution to WA's cultural heritage.
