Ascot based nappy manufacturer SeNevens International Ltd will remove its Safeties Nature Nappy product from domestic retailers, as it works to meet Australian biodegradability standards.
SeNevens was issued with notices in November of 2007 that required it to prove claims that the nappy was biodegradable and leak proof.
It was announced today that early tests show the nappy, which uses the company's patented biodegradable composite, was around 80 per cent biodegradable after six months.
Managing director, Mr Jon Bloomfield, said that the company had begun work with a new manufacturer on a replacement nappy, with an aim to meet Australian standards of biodegradability.
"We won't leave a nappy on the shelves that isn't the best possible product we can achieve," Mr Bloomfield said.
He added, "When our Australian customers next see our nappies on the shelves, they will have the added confidence of knowing that they have been independently, scientifically tested and thoroughly consumer tested."
The company also announced that a deal with a Korean distributer had been signed, which would result in a new nappy being developed for the market.
