Sydney-based industrial technology company Savcor Group has announced that its subsidiary Savcor Finn has won a contract to refurbish the Dampier ship loading jetty for Rio Tinto subsidiary Dampier Salt.
The $12.8 million project will encompass the removal of the existing timber decking system, refurbishment and painting of the steel superstructure, and the installation of a new precast concrete decking system.
Dampier Salt will continue to have complete operational capacity of the salt load-out facility while the project is being undertaken.
Commencing in April 2012, the project will last for six months.
Savcor Finn’s general manager Julian Bleddyn commented on how significant this project was to Savcor’s operations in the north-west.
“The award of this technically difficult project to Savcor is an endorsement of our innovative approach to major refurbishment projects of marine structures, while maintaining the highest level of safety compliance,” he said in a statement.
“Innovative access systems and careful programming will facilitate Savcor in safely completing the project while allowing Dampier Salt to maintain 24 hour access to the structure, which is critical to the success of the project.”
Savcor Finn, whose main clients are the leading companies in the Australian mining, resources, energy, and infrastructure sectors, has completed major projects for Dampier Salt previously.
These projects include structure condition assessments, concrete repair, and cathodic protection systems and coating application services.
Savcor Group shares are currently trading at 5.7 cents.
