Orbital Corporation founder Ralph Sarich and mining heiress Angela Bennett have been named in the top 100 of an inaugural Green Rich List for their contribution to the environment.
The United Kingdom's Sunday Times publication ranked Mr Sarich at 70 while Ms Bennett was eight places behind in a list of 100 tycoons or wealthy families worth over ₤200 million ($A441 million), including Warren Buffet and Bill Gates.
Mr Sarich was reported as having an estimated wealth of ₤300 million ($A661 million) while Ms Bennett has a projected wealth of ₤250 million ($A551 million).
Both made the list after the pair were amongst a consortium of backers for the $6 billion North Port Quay development proposal, which was promoted as a carbon-free island.
The proposal received a mixed response from the state's sustainability experts and from the general public, while then Premier Alan Carpenter rejected the ambitious proposal.
Terry Peabody, with an estimated wealth of ₤200 million ($A441 million) was the only other Australian in the top 100, coming in a 90.
Mr Buffet topped the list with an estimated wealth of ₤27 billion ($A59 billion), Mr Gates was second with ₤26 billion ($A57 billion) while New York mayor Michael Bloomberg was ranked sixth with ₤14.4 billion ($A32 billion).
