The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association has elected Santos’ David Knox as chairman and Woodside Energy’s Rob Cole as vice chairman for the coming financial year.
Mr Knox succeeds Buru Energy executive director Eric Streitburg at the helm of APPEA.
Mr Knox said he was excited to join the board at a time when the Australian oil and gas industry was going through a period of unprecedented transformation and growth.
“Australia is playing host to enormous investments and opportunities and it is very exciting to be in a position to help maximise the benefit generated by our diverse sector,” he said.
“The oil and gas industry can underpin major growth in national wealth, employment, emissions abatement and regional development,
“But the industry could also fall victim to its own success.”
Mr Knox said particular challenges to the industry were posed by increasing costs, labour availability and the unpredictable nature of the minority Gillard government.
“Increasing public discussion regarding the industry’s activities provides APPEA an opportunity and an obligation to better inform that debate,” Mr Knox said.
