The Minister for Sport and Recreation, Bob Kucera, has presented Surf Life Saving Western Australia (SLSWA) with triple best practice certifications during the opening ceremony of the 2005 State Lifesaving Conference. SLSWA has developed and adopted an Integrated Management System aligned with international and Australian best practice standards. The triple certification permits SLSWA to display the widely-recognised red, green and yellow "Five Ticks Standards Marks", being for: Certified Quality Management; • Certified Environmental Management; and • Certified Occupational, Health and Safety Management. The ‘Five Ticks Standards Marks’ apply to SLSWA’s operational areas in professional lifeguard services, community training, surf lifesaving sports and event management, and administration of the State Association. The 2005 State Lifesaving Conference, themed ‘Confronting the Challenge’, brought together over 220 volunteer surf lifesavers for an weekend of learning and consultation with leading public safety and education representatives.
