SBDC stays independent

THE SBDC will not be removed or rolled into another government department under the new Labor Government.

For the past few weeks rumours had been circling that the SBDC would either be removed or rolled into another government department such as Commerce and Trade or the WA Department of Training.

However, SBDC managing director George Etrelezis said Small Business Minister Clive Brown had made it clear to him that the SBDC Act would not be repealed. That Act guarantees the SBDC will remain a separate incorporated government body.

Small business groups had been concerned that the SBDC’s placement within another government department would reduce its effectiveness.

They feared it would be placed within the WADoT, which has never been able to tell small businesses what the government of the day’s policy on small business training was.
