Caversham’s Dear Friends and Burswood’s Rockpool Bar and Grill were the top dogs at last night’s Gold Plate awards, both taking out multiple gongs in WA’s premier dining awards.
Neil Perry’s Rockpool, established in January this year, took out the award for wine list of the year and was named number one steakhouse and new restaurant while Dear Friends achieved the highest overall score, winning the Premier’s award and was named the number one licensed dining venue.
Perth Convention Exhibition Centre and South Perth’s Red Cabbage received an honourable mention, awarded a Prix D’honneur.
Well established Friends, based at the Hyatt, was awarded fine dining restaurant of the year while Matilda Bay took out the award for casual dining and Mount Lawley’s Barolo was named number one Mediterranean dining restaurant.
Regional restaurants were also on the winning list, with Bunkers Beach Café in Bunker Bay, Broome’s Beach Club, Yallingup’s Studio Bistro, Bunbury’s Mojo’s Restaurant among winners.
Xanadu in Margaret River was named restaurant within a winery winner.
Aquarium Seafood Chinese Restaurant in Ascot was named the number one licensed Chinese restaurant, Dusit Thai in Northbridge was named number one Thai and Punjab Indian in Innaloo named the top Indian eatery.
Speaking at the awards, agriculture and food minister Terry Redman said the competition had been close according to the Catering Institute judges.
“The Gold Plate awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creative and innovative work of the catering industry and its use of quality local ingredients,” he said.
