The contract is in addition to a $1.5 million package of roadworks announced last year, which are currently being undertaken.
In making the announcement Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said that the improvement works would include overlay and widening of the existing road and drainage improvements, along with pavement resurfacing and the installation of roadside furniture.
The section of the road in question is between Bendall Road and Marginata Drive just north of Donnybrook.
"The works, which are being brought forward a year, are part of the overall strategy to upgrade the South West Highway and will improve road safety by providing a wider road and a more forgiving roadside environment," Ms MacTiernan said.
The contract is scheduled to commence in March with work estimated to be completed by April 2006.
The project will be managed by Main Roads WA, South-West region.

South West Highway works continue
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced today that RoadCare Pty Ltd has been awarded the $900,000 contract to complete the road construction from Bendall Road to Marginata Road, along South West Highway.
The Bendall Road to Marginata Drive section of the South West Highway is located approximately three kilometres north of Donnybrook townsite.
"The improvement works will include overlay and widening of the existing road and drainage improvements, along with pavement resurfacing and the installation of roadside furniture," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The works, which are being brought forward a year, are part of the overall strategy to upgrade the South West Highway and will improve road safety by providing a wider road and a more forgiving roadside environment."
This funding is in addition to the $1.5million package of roadworks announced last year, which are currently being undertaken.
These works included widening the seal on various sections of the highway between Donnybrook and Balingup, improving curves and geometry at various locations south of Donnybrook, and reconstruction and widening 0.5km north of Hesters Hill.
The contract is scheduled to commence in March with work estimated to be completed by April 2006.
The project will be managed by Main Roads WA, South-West region.
