The State Government has announced it will release new residential land at Ravensthorpe as a direct result of new mining developments in the area.
The developments include BHP Billiton's $1.8billion Ravensthorpe Nickel Project, Tectonic Resources' new copper-gold mine and a potential new tantalum-lithium deposit.
The State Government, with support from BHP Billiton and the Federal Government, has provided residential land, constructed an airport, upgraded roads and is building new schools and community services in Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe to support the mining developments.
Resources Minister John Bowler said new residential building blocks in Ravensthorpe would be released mainly on the northern edge of the townsite.
The Minister said the 43 northern blocks being released would have a memorial on the titles advising the owners of the proximity to a future mine to the north of Ravensthorpe.
"The land will help meet an immediate demand for new housing in the Ravensthorpe area, facilitating development and bringing workers and their families into the community," he said.
"In the longer term, it is expected that subsequent housing developments will occur in the south-east area of the town, away from known mineral deposits."
