WESTERN Australia's residential building approvals have been volatile in recent months, with strong seasonally adjusted growth between May and June (17.2 per cent), driven by a sharp rise in approvals for private sector houses. The seasonally adjusted monthly total number of approvals of 2,114 was WA's highest since November 1999.
Across Australia, building approvals increased by 6.2 per cent to 14,604 between May and June 2003, to stand 1.2 per cent higher than in June 2002. Private sector houses contributed most to this growth in all of the five larger states, with WA's percentage growth by far the strongest, at 31 per cent.
