Western Australia's strong economic growth is fuelling greater demand for land and infrastructure in regional cities and towns across the state.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today released the latest Country Land Develolpment Program, which gives a snapshot of how regional WA could potentially grow over the next five years.
"A key finding of the review is that the strong development activity in coastal areas is set to continue, spurred on by employment opportunities, tourism and lifestyle choices," Ms MacTiernan said.
"Coastal locations, especially in the South-West, from south of Mandurah to Margaret River, continue to be magnets for regional growth."
The Minister said centres between Geraldton and Perth are also expected to be hot spots of activity.
"Similarly, towns like Kununurra, Broome, Port Hedland, Karratha, Geraldton, Albany and Kalgoorlie Boulder will continue to experience the benefits of the State's booming economy," she said.
"A significant number of development proposals show there should be enough land to supply an increase in demand."
The CLDP review has identified more than 27,600 potential lots over the next five years in regional WA.
The South-West region is expected to produce the greatest number of lots, while the Top 10 potential growth areas across the State include:
City/Sub-Region Potential Lots
1 Greater Bunbury 9,665
2 Busselton-Dunsborugh 4,591
3 Greater Geraldton 3,090
4 Albany 2,501
5 Broome 1,734
6 Augusta-Margaret River 1,212
7 Kalgoorlie-Boulder 1,070

"The expected growth has the potential to create some very exciting opportunities but it must be managed carefully to protect the lifestyle quality and environment that make WA a location of choice for so many people," Ms MacTiernan said.
"Up to date information is required to develop a solid understanding of issues and strategies required to manage growth in regional WA."
