The Gateway roads project around Perth Airport, strike action on the Fremantle waterfront, and the live animal trade were among the issues raised by readers of our website this week: www.wabusinessnews.com.au
With regard to the article: ‘Leighton/Georgiou consortium wins Gateway works’ …
IT is about time this got under way. I only hope that most of the work is kept local, unlike some of the schools projects that went overseas and were government funded.

YET, alas, there is still no mention of a rail link from Perth to the airport, very shortsighted.

WE must get rid of these dumb planning ideas we continually build; for a start, light intersections are a bad solution. The octopus design is the most effective way, especially where main arteries intersect (Narrows interchange)
Now, did anyone think of creating an express underground (bus/tram/train) under the Great Eastern Highway during the Gateway works? It would be a great solution for travel from the airport to Burswood and the city.

THIS is great news for local industries as both Leighton and Georgiou support local manufacturers

Real world view
With regard to the article: ‘Striking workers holding WA to ransom’ ...
I AM currently sitting in a conference room where more than 600 delegates from around the world are focusing on outsourcing combined with job creation.
Sadly, as I read this story, I wonder what has gone so horribly wrong with some of the Australian workers who for some reason feel their interests are of greater value than the country overall.
Excessive and outlandish demands on Australian employers will see the eventual demise of what is a great country. I suggest that those who seek personal gain at the expense of others come overseas, as they need their eyes opened before it’s all too late.

THIS is totally ridiculous and just pure greed.
I come from the UK where we are all made to work hard for our money, and like all normal people most of us have to work a five-day week with two days off.
How can you justify a wage increase when you are asking for more time off than you are actually at work?
We’d all like more time to spend with our families but it doesn’t put food on the table and a roof over your head. How can they not see that this is totally unjustifiable?

End live trade
With regard to the article: ‘Live exports to decline: Barnett’ ...
ABOUT time. This is a disgusting trade. There is no reason why the animals cannot be killed at an abattoir(s) in Australia and exported as frozen carcasses. It’s an abhorrent and antiquated trade, not a good reflection on any civilised society
