Royal Perth Hospital had granted ethics approval to NSW-based cardiac device development company Sunshine Heart Inc for a trial program of its C-Pulse device.
The clinical trial will investigate the safety of the C-Pulse and its ability to improve the heart function of patients with heart failure by increasing blood supply to the heart muscle and reducing the hearts pumping work. The C-Pulse is designed as a non-blood contacting heart-assist device, reducing the risks of bleeding complications and making it safe to turn the device on and off.
