Messages on Hold intends to continue an east coast expansion following a deal to buy Brisbane-based Message Power International Pty Ltd.
The company’s managing director, Kym Illman, claims to have several takeovers “under way” with the aim of increasing revenue by 25 per cent next financial year.
Mr Illman said while more than 80 per cent of the company’s $12 million turnover was generated outside Western Australia, he had no intention of moving its operations east.
The Brisbane acquisition follows Sydney and Adelaide acquisitions in the past few years.
Mr Illman said the business had very little face-to-face interaction with its clients and employed just two people on the eastern seaboard.
Its 85 Perth-based staff work to generate about 30 new clients a week via telemarketing.
The group is responsible for recorded promotional mesages heard at 11,000 businesses.
Messages on Hold’s growth is also focused on international markets, with Mr Illman telling WA Business News that he intended to ramp up the company’s Singaporean division.
“We bought a little business in Singapore five years ago and it has been a nice little money earner, but we haven’t really had the focus there,” Mr Illman said.
“We’ve decide we’re going to give it a crack. In one year we will do double the revenue it is doing at the moment.”
Messages on Hold is part of Mr Illman’s The Message Group, which includes digital signage business Message Vision – established in November last year – as well as a luxury holiday home rental business.
Mr Illman is currently building a holiday home in Lancelin following successful acquisitions of three properties in Queensland.
His move into the property sector followed several holidays in Queensland, where he rented a home on Sovereign Island.
“The third time we wanted to book it a mate of mine had already booked it out, so I decided I would buy my own,” Mr Illman said.
He later bought a further two properties, another in Sovereign Island and one in Palm Beach.
The houses are marketed to Messages on Hold clients.
