People in communities across Western Australia can help shape the design of the new $1.1billion Fiona Stanley Hospital following the release of an online community survey.
Health Minister Jim McGinty encouraged people to give their opinions on aspects of the hospital such as access and arrival, interior design, visitor areas, services and facilities, landscaping, furniture and fittings, safety and security, and signage.
"The feedback received from the survey will assist the architects, planners and health professionals charged with designing the new hospital," Mr McGinty said.
"Fiona Stanley Hospital will be a healthcare hub for the entire state and this is a terrific opportunity for all members of the community, from the Great Southern to the Kimberley and the thousands of communities in between, to contribute to the design of the hospital.
"It's an opportunity that shouldn't be missed, and I urge members of the public to take the time to complete and return the survey so their ideas and comments can be considered in the early design and planning stages for the hospital."
The 643-bed hospital will offer an array of acute medical and surgical services including:
- The State centre for treatment of major trauma, burns, and heart and lung transplants;
- WA's first comprehensive cancer service south of the river including radiotherapy treatment facilities, medical oncology and haematology;
- Renal dialysis;
- A major 24-hour emergency department;
- Paediatrics;
- Cardiothoracic services;
- Radiology services including CT and MRI scanning; and
- A state-of-the-art medical research facility to be built in conjunction with universities and the WA Institute of Medical Research.
The survey is available from the Fiona Stanley Hospital website. All completed surveys must be returned before Friday, August 3 2007.
The community survey is the next step in a comprehensive community consultation program running until early August. It follows the completion of a series of public workshops held in June and early July.
Construction of the Fiona Stanley Hospital is scheduled for completion in 2012. The hospital will offer comprehensive health care services to communities in the south of Perth and across WA.
