The Utah Point wharf in Port Hedland and the State Theatre Centre in Northbridge took home major awards at the Australian Engineering Excellence Awards held in Canberra this week.
The Utah Point project, which involves a new port berth in Finucane Island to cater for smaller resource companies, was constructed by the Port Hedland Port Authority and the Pinc Group.
“Winning this prestigious national award is testament to the professional, hard-working team from the Port Hedland Port Authority and Pinc, and a very welcome acknowledgement of this highly successful project that sets the bench mark in modern prot facilities,” PHPA acting chief executive Lindsay Copeman said.
The port has achieved full operation within its fist 6 months, delivering export sales of around $1.5 billion per annum.
Also today, the State Theatre Centre was recognised for its unique design, which had to counter for large portions of the building being sunk beneath the water table, adjacent to road and rail networks.
The $100 million structure also had to account for low vibration, noise and humidity in a small building footprint surrounding by heritage buildings.
