The Swan River Trust has granted final approval for the $18 million tourism and hospitality development on the Swan River at Point Fraser.
Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi has welcomed the development, which was granted City of Perth approval in 2008.
Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said the mixed-use hospitality development, by City Foreshore Investments, would attract visitors to the Perth riverfront and become a significant tourist attraction.
“Such a development would add life to this section of the city and increase the public’s interaction with our greatest natural asset, the Swan River,” she said.
Ms Scaffidi said the City of Perth had put considerable resources into transforming Point Fraser into an attractive and environmentally sustainable public recreational and children’s playground area.
Stage One of the redevelopment involved creating an award-winning lake system embracing new sustainable and environmentally friendly stormwater catchment systems featuring public boardwalks and reintroducing native vegetation to the area.
Stage Two increased the landscaped parkland area and re-established car-parking and other infrastructure facilities to support the Point Fraser commercial development precinct.
City Foreshore Investments Pty Ltd has been granted approval to construct three commercial buildings on the site with two buildings constructed on the foreshore and sub-leased from the City of Perth.
The other building will incorporate a riverbed lease from the Swan River Trust with the premises constructed over the river itself providing a public boardwalk along with ferry and boat access.
Current plans incorporate a boutique brewery to attract visitors and tourists, combined with an array of small bars, fine dining restaurants, cafes, tourist shops in conjunction with café and takeaway services so that the public can utilise the surrounding parkland riverfront areas.
Additionally, numerous alfresco dining areas will be created to take advantage of the beautiful riverfront city lights and sunset views and will incorporate a skygarden supper club.
City Foreshore Investments has stated that interest from local, interstate and international hospitality businesses has been strong and it is carefully selecting the right tenants to make sure the best suited tenancy mix will be achieved to create a vibrant hub of activity on Perth riverfront.
The City of Perth said the freestanding river development will be a significant tourist attraction and create a pedestrian river walk, run and cycle link from the Barrack Street redevelopment to the $1 billion Riverside Project near The Causeway.
