A major 1,400ha, State Government commercial and industrial land development, strategically located in the south-west metropolitan corridor, will change the face of industry in Western Australia.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today unveiled Latitude 32 as the new name for the industrial zone planned for the Hope Valley-Wattleup area.
"Latitude 32 is world-class development which will become WA's largest industrial zone," Ms MacTiernan said
"It will accommodate clean, smart industrial and commercial activities, with an emphasis on high quality appearance and low environmental impacts.
"This is a prime location, with access to high quality road and rail systems and integrating with the Fremantle Port, Cockburn Sound, the Kwinana Industrial Area, the Australian Marine Complex at Henderson and East Rockingham Industrial Park.
"Latitude 32 will become a cornerstone for industry in the south-west corridor for the next 50 years, generating about 10,000 new jobs.
"The Carpenter Government is committed to delivering high quality industrial land to support WA's continued economic growth."
The Minister said the project was covered by The Hope Valley Wattleup redevelopment project master plan.
This was developed by LandCorp, in conjunction with the WA Planning Commission and the Environmental Protection Authority and adopted in March 2005.
She said land within Latitude 32 was allocated as follows:
- general industry (650ha);
- transport industry (400ha);
- eco-industry/business (230ha);
- commercial centre (41.5ha);
- resource recovery (55ha); and
- parks and recreation (21ha).
The zone would include 14 distinct precincts to accommodate a wide range of complementary uses and LandCorp, expected to call for expressions of interest in developing the first precinct in January 2007.
"This development is taking shape, after numerous studies and extensive consultation with industry, local businesses and the community over many years," Ms MacTiernan said.
"We will continue this consultation throughout the life of the project to ensure Latitude 32 meets the needs of industry and the expectations of the community."
