Subiaco olive oil marketer Piquant Blue Ltd has advised US supermarket groups Giant Food Inc and Albertson's Inc will stock its olive oil brand, redisland.
Giant Food Inc, a subsidiary of the multinational Royal Ahold retailing group, has agreed to sell redisland in 250 of its Giant and Tops supermarkets in the north east region of the US with first shipments scheduled for July.
Albertson's Inc, which had previously agreed to sell redisland in its 500 Californian stores, has added its 118 Florida stores to the redisland program. Albertson's Inc is one of the top five US supermarket groups in the USA.
Last week, the company secured an agreement with the Shaws supermarket chain to sell redisland in the north east region of the USA.
Shaws will commence stocking redisland in 75 of its stores in August, with the remaining 140 stores commencing in September.
The company has also secured two US supermarket accounts, with Delhaize America and Demoulas Super Markets, to sell its redisland. The supermarket groups would commence stocking redisland in June and July.
Delhaize America's subsidiaries Hannaford's and Kash n' Karry / Sweetbay will sell redisland from 245 stores, while Piquant Blue will supply Demoulas Super Markets into 58 of its grocery stores under the Market Basket and Demoulas Super Market names.
Hannaford's is one of the dominant supermarket chains in the north east, while Kash n' Karry has extensive coverage of the Tampa area in Florida. Sweetbay is a new concept store format introduced in the Tampa area by Kash n' Karry.
Demoulas Super Markets runs 58 grocery stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
The company has also announced agreements with Albertson's Inc. and The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company, which will carry the Australian brand of extra virgin olive oil in a total of 850 stores across several major US supermarket chains.
At present, the redisland brand is carried in a total of 1,736 stores across the US, well on its way to securing its initial target of 2,500 stores.
The total committed store count in the US is now just short of the total number of supermarket stores in Australia selling redisland.
At 1245 WST, shares in Piquant Blue were at 40 cents.

Giant Food Inc, a subsidiary of the multinational Royal Ahold retailing group, has agreed to sell redislandTM in 250 of its Giant and Tops supermarket stores with first shipments scheduled for July. These stores are concentrated in the north east region of the US which is of strategic importance in the US market and accounts for one third of US olive oil consumer spend.
Albertson's Inc, which had previously agreed to sell redislandTM in its 500 Californian stores, has added its 118 Florida stores to the redislandTM program. Albertson's Inc is one of the top 5 US supermarket groups in the USA.
These new deals follow several other supermarket agreements in the USA which will collectively see the redislandTM brand carried in a total of 1,736 stores across the Company's three key targeted regions.
Piquant Blue set itself an initial target of having 2,500 stores selling redislandTM in the US and reaching that target is well underway.
The total comitted store count in the US is now just short of the total number of supermarket stores in Australia selling redislandTM.
