The Pilbara remains the most expensive regional market in Australia for renting according to the latest RP Data rental review.
According to the September rent review report, the median rent in the region is $1500 a week.
RP Data said the high rental rate is typical of resource intensive locations were housing is in very tight supply.
The rent review report shows weekly rental rates increase nationally by 2.9 per cent over the past 12 months.
In Perth the median cost of renting is $380 for a house and $330 for a unit.
Darwin was the most expensive capital city to rent in with a median advertised weekly rate of $520.
During September, growth in rental rates for houses was relatively flat except in Canberra (3.1 per cent) and Melbourne (1.4 per cent).
Rental growth was flat in Perth, Adelaide and Darwin and fell in Brisbane (-1.4 per cent) and Canberra (-2.4 per cent).
RP Data analyst Cameron Kusher said over the last 12 months rental growth has been at below average levels however, rents have started to show signs that they are now nudging slightly higher in selected areas.
