MEERILINGA House at 1186 Hay Street, West Perth, has been placed on the market by Meerilinga Young Children’s Foundation Inc, offering investors a chance to buy a piece of West Perth history.
Built as a private residence in 1897 by Frederick Illingworth, the property is a classic example of Federation Queen Anne-style architecture and has a rich history.
Home to the Kindergarten Union from 1922, the building was re-opened in 1989 as the Meerilinga Young Children’s Foundation.
In 1999, the foundation was the recipient of a Federal government grant, under the Federation and Cultural Heritage Projects Program. Architectural firm Cameron Chisholm and Nicol was commissioned to supervise the $500,000 restoration of the property.
Selling agent Perman & Associates principal Bob Perman, said Meerilinga was a West Perth icon.
“It is one of the finest examples of gold boom era architecture in Western Australia,” he said.
The property is to be offered for sale by an Expressions of Interest process, closing on December 8.
