Perth has been ranked in the top five liveable cities in the world, with only one other Australian city, Melbourne, scoring higher, a new survey shows.
The latest Economist Intelligence Unit survey saw Melbourne ranked as the third best place to live in the world while Perth tied for fifth place with Canada's Calgary.
The best place to live in the world was Vancouver while Vienna came in second and Toronto was fourth.
Australia was a regular feature in the top 20 with Sydney coming in equal ninth, Adelaide at 11 and Brisbane at 16.
"Australian cities represent many of the best aspects of liveability while instability in countries like Pakistan and Bangladesh means that cities in South Asia fare much worse," editor of the survey Jon Copestake said.
The survey assesses living conditions in 140 countries around the world on stability, healthcare, culture, environment, education and infrastructure.
Cities that score best tend to be mid-sized, in developed countries with a low population density, benefiting from cultural or recreational availability but with lower crime levels or infrastructure problems that can be caused by large populations.
