A total of 700 delegates is expected to visit Perth later this year and deliver over $2 million for the local economy after the Perth Convention Bureau secured a large Taiwanese corporate incentive travel group.
The Bureau presented the successful bid, beating off competition from Cairns in Queensland.
Managing Director Christine Mclean said the delegates will visit Perth in staggered groups in October and November, each staying six nights.
"This is a wonderful win for Western Australia and represents the kind of high yield business that is a key focus of our Tourism Minister in the wake of the global economic slowdown," she said.
"This is one of the bigger groups we have secured and has provided a welcome boost to our sales results, placing us in a strong position to exceed our year-end target of $64 million in direct delegate expenditure."
Established in 1972, the Bureau is a non-profit organisation responsible for marketing Western Australia as a destination for conventions, exhibitions and incentive groups.
