Perth CEOs sleep out for good cause
After Perth’s business supporters of the St Vincent de Paul CEO Sleepout roll up their blankets and head home to the comfort of their beds, donations can still be made to support the homeless for a month after the event.
The event this week, which aims to put the spotlight on homelessness, was launched in Sydney in 2006 and became national last year, when $2.9 million was raised to help homeless people.
A number of Perth’s business leaders will spend a night at the WACA ground to help raise money and awareness around the level of homelessness, which is close to 14,000 in WA alone.
Lycopodium Minerals chief executive Peter De Leo is taking part in the challenge as well as newly appointed governor designate Malcolm McCusker and Tonya McCusker, who have raised $25,000.
WA Business News 40under40 winner Leo Owned is taking part and has so far raised $5,375.
Fortescue Metals Group chief executive Andrew Forrest will bed down again this year, having been one of the biggest advocates for the event in its inaugural year in WA in 2010.
