Qantas has launched a new flight route between Perth and Busselton that will take off in June, with flights available three days per week.
The new route aims to boost tourism in the Margaret River region by offering 31,000 seats per year between Perth and Busselton, according to a statement released by Qantas on Thursday.
QantasLink chief executive Rachel Yangoyan said the aviation company was committed to supporting regional tourism.
“[We] are thrilled to be growing our regional network by launching a new route into the spectacular Margaret River,” Ms Yangoyan said.
“Famous for its wineries, crystal clear waters and whale watching, these new flights are set to make the region even more accessible for Australians and international holidaymakers travelling through Perth.”
Speaking at a Labor press conference, Premier Roger Cook said the new flight route would increase visitation levels in the South West region.
"We're certainly really interested to see that Qantas have now backed my government's tourism strategy to bring more people into the South West and to continue to propel our tourism industry forward," Mr Cook said.
"And as we do that, we see that it increases demand across different facilities, different airports, ports and things of that nature right across the state, so we continue to monitor the state to see what we need to do."
Perth-Busselton flights went on sale on February 20, with flights available on Monday, Friday and Sunday from June 27.
Qantas-owned low-cost carrier Jetstar commenced direct flights between Busselton and Melbourne in 2022 and added a route between Busselton and Sydney in 2024.
The new Perth-Busselton route has been launched following the success of these flights, in a move that would increase visitation to WA's South West region.
