Perth Airport is gearing up for its annual Christmas rush with a new car park at the international terminal and exclusive new shopping options for overseas travellers.
The new long term car park at the international terminal is designed for travellers who enjoy the convenience of leaving their car at the airport while they are away.
Perth Airport CEO Brad Geatches said the new car park would provide an economic alternative for travellers who park their cars for longer than six hours.
"More and more people recognise the convenience of airport parking when they travel overseas. This is especially the case for families who enjoy the flexibility of making their own way to and from the airport.
Mr Geatches said that the new car park would ease the congestion which is sometimes faced by travellers during peak times at the international terminal.
Pricing at the new long term car park would start at $17 per day for the first three days, followed by $5 per day thereafter.
The existing car park will become a short term car park with a new pricing structure in place from 1 January 2008.
Mr Geatches also announced new changes for duty free shoppers at Perth Airport.
"Duty free shoppers will be delighted by the new F1RST duty free store which replaces the former Downtown Duty Free outlet. Located in the airside departures area, the new F1RST store features a bright new fit-out with an exciting new range of products, including brands such as Cartier, Blue and L'Oreal.
Dedicated counters have also been installed for leading brands Dior and Jurlique.
"It is especially pleasing that Perth travellers will now have the same duty free shopping opportunities normally associated with the largest international airports.
Mr Geatches said that the festive season was traditionally Perth Airport's busiest period and the situation with car parking and other airport services would be closely monitored. Contingency plans were in place to open up new temporary parking if necessary.
"Over such a busy period I encourage all travellers to leave plenty of time for their journey to the airport, to find a parking space and to check in.
"I also thank all users of Perth Airport for their patience during 2007. I am looking forward to 2008 which will mark some important and exciting milestones in the future of Perth Airport."
