PET supplier Perfect Paws has beaten hundreds of competitors to be named Australian Micro Business of the Year.
The four year old company supplies products to the dog washing, grooming and breeding industry and was established in 1999 by José and Angela Navarro.
The company had previously won the State Micro Business of the Year Award along with the home-based business, established business and animals/agricultural categories.
Mr Navarro said he had not expected to win the national award.
"We had to go through three different stages of judging and we really were surprised when we heard our name called out," he said.
The judges cited Mr Navarro’s strong knowledge and control of his business, great marketing program and strong focus on planning and systems.
They were also impressed with his willingness to help other Australian micro and home-based businesses.
The company initially started in the Navarro’s home before moving to the Welshpool Business Incubator.
It also received business development assistance from the Small Business Development Corporation and the Business Enterprise Centre network.
