Penny wise and pound foolish

Statistics show that executives forced to handle their own communications as part of the restructuring of new age offices are actually costing their companies up to 2.5 times the wage of the secretary.

This is due to lost productivity, lost business and added job stress and related illnesses.

Technology will never replace the productivity and skills of qualified professionals.

Yet many companies insist their staff organise their own conferences, travel arrangements, public relations and product launches.

Many companies have never faced the fact that a tightly managed company, supported by firm policies, can overcome many of these issues.

An example is the company’s travel policy – and accessing the advantages and disadvantages of the various frequent flyer programs that are available.

Who is getting the benefit of these programs at the moment? Is the company re-investing this back into the bottom line or is the traveller enjoying a free week in Bali at the company’s expense?

Also, are companies taking advantage of the combined routes that are travelled and negotiating route discounts? Or are travellers doing their own thinking and paying for tickets on their own credit cards?

The truth is that if the company had a firm travel policy in place and a consolidation of all travellers, they could be stripping up to 13% off the bottom line of their travel budget.

A professional travel management company is able to help with these issues.

Denise Monk from Debrett’s Travel Management said this about the perception in the marketplace: “Many companies are under a misconception that to employ a professional costs money.”

“At the end of the day, a travel management company will offer you comprehensive savings on route deals with airlines, hotel accommodation, car hire and your accounting processes as well as advising you on the most cost effective ways to tackle your frequent flyer problem.”
