Dr Penny Flett, the chief of one of Western Australia's largest aged care groups, has been elected president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA.
The CEO of Brightwater Care Group is the first woman ever to head the state's peak business body. She was elected last night following the Chamber's annual general meeting.
Dr Flett has served on CCI's Health and Community Services Council since 1996. She was elected to the Board of the Chamber last year.
Member representatives joining the Chamber's General Council are Ken Steinke (CEO, WA Newspapers), Susan Murphy (Planning and Infrastructure Manager, Water Corporation) and Professor Margaret Seares (Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of WA).
Dr Flett succeeds engineering identity Dr Brian Hewitt who completed his two-year term as president and was appointed a life member of the Chamber.
About Dr Penny Flett
Dr Penny Flett, CEO of Brightwater Care Group, began her career after graduating in medicine from the University of Adelaide. Early years were spent in a variety of locations and roles, including four years with the RAAF.
In the 80s, she pursued post-graduate qualifications in both geriatric medicine and medical administration and has become a champion for people of all ages who need a high level of ongoing support and service.
Dr Flett was 1998 Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year, and was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2003.
She has contributed to many government and non-government Boards and associations, in order to support good planning, service excellence, and inclusion of all affected by the ageing of our society.
Dr Flett is chair of the WA Aged Care Advisory Council and is a member of the Australian Bravery Decorations Council and the Board of the National Seniors Association.
