Financial Services Institute of Australasia (Finsia) is hosting a seminar on the issue of increasing word-wide oil consumption and its associated problems, July 7 at the Sheraton Hotel. While world-wide consumption of oil is rapidly growing, oil discoveries have dropped below consumption rate. Peak oil is the term for the forecast downturn when global oil field depletion finally exceeds the rate of new fields coming online. Dr Ali Samsam Bakhtiari, who recently retired from the National Iranian Oil Company, is the guest speaker for this event. Other speakers on the panel include: • Peter Strachan – analyst and co-owner of StockAnalysis, a weekly analyst briefing; • Peter Newman – professor of City Policy and director of the Institute for Sustainability and Technology Policy at Murdoch University; and • Bruce Robinson – convenor of ASPO-Australia. Registration for this event costs $77 for Finsia member and $99 for non members. Tables of eight are also available. For more information contact Finsia on 9223 7200 or email cpd.wa@finsia.edu.au
