IF there's one thing an aspiring events management company in Perth really needs, it's a big name celebrity for its first theatre show; and there are fewer names bigger than British TV stalwart, Sir Michael Parkinson.

Jo Garnett, owner of JVG Events, has done just that by securing a one-show only deal with the legendary broadcaster to kick-off her company's 'Inquisitive Minds' interactive theatre show series.
What's more incredible is Ms Garnett, and her husband and business partner Steve, have only been in Perth for 18 months and JVG Events itself has existed for barely a year.
Which begs the question, how did they secure Sir Michael?
"It's a combination of thorough research and having the balls to ask," Mrs Garnett said.
"But there's always an element of luck to it, it's got to be at the right time with the right place."
Luck wasn't the only factor in accessing 'Parky', as he's affectionately known.
"You do a lot of research, you make a lot of calls, you talk to a lot of people and I think the trick, first of all with something like that, is that when you're pitching to somebody it has got to be something they're seriously going to look at," Mrs Garnett said.
"About three weeks ago it was all confirmed so in terms of a turnaround time it's been exceptionally quick but too good an opportunity to let go by."
A sentiment shared by Sydney-based Max Markson, chief executive of Australia's pre-eminent celebrity agency and event management group Markson Sparks, who believes it's an especially impressive feat for a new events company.
"I think it's a great start, but it's all about consistency and continually delivering good names to the public, that's what it's about really," Mr Markson told WA Business News.
"It's fantastic for them to get him over there."
The 'Inquisitive Minds' theatre shows focus on audience interaction with the guest via questions submitted prior to the show, which will then be raised by the host during the evening.
Channel Nine's Dixie Marshall will be 'grilling' Sir Michael Parkinson on February 26 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
