Victorian charter carrier Ozjet Airlines is dipping its toe in the pond of Western Australia's interstate travel market once again, announcing plans to conduct one flight to Melbourne on August 9, and a return flight on August 13.
Ozjet chief executive Willie O'Neill said the company would look at providing future weekend specials based on the popularity of the service.
The company appeared on the WA aviation scene in March last year, offering Perth business travellers some 60-seat all-business class flights to Melbourne, albeit in a red-eye timeslot.
However, a lack of support from Perth-Melbourne commuters caused Ozjet to withdraw from scheduled services and concentrate on charter work before flying a single mile.
Eight months later the company returned, commencing Derby's first air services from Perth's domestic airport to the Department of Defence's Curtin Airbase, situated 30km from the town, operating three return flights per week.

OzJet, Australia's own charter airline, is offering a Weekend Special flying from Perth to Melbourne on Thursday 9th August and returning to Perth from Melbourne on Monday 13th August. Ozjet is thrilled to be taking the opportunity to test the Perth-Melbourne market and is releasing special fares starting from $69* one way, inclusive of taxes.
Already approved by regulators (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) to operate into both Perth and Melbourne, Ozjet is looking to build upon the successes of the current Perth-Curtin route. "The support from the public on the Perth-Curtin route has been absolutely fantastic and has influenced us to look at expanding our horizons in and beyond the W.A market" said Richard George, OzJet's General Manager of Western Australia.
OzJet have specifically chosen these dates to allow passengers the opportunity to make the most of a long weekend in Melbourne with the much anticipated West Coast Eagles v Kangaroos game at Telstra Dome, and the chance to take advantage of Melbourne's extensive shopping opportunities in the heart of the city, the famous Chapel Street and the Queen Victoria Market. "Depending on the success of this flight, we will look further into providing future weekend specials and event flights for the people of Western Australia" said OzJet CEO, Willie O'Neill.
Flights for the Weekend Special will depart from Perth on the 9th August at 6 p.m arriving into Melbourne at 11:30pm and return to Perth on the 13th August at 6 p.m arriving at 8:25pm. Flights will depart from Terminal 3 in both Melbourne (Tullamarine) and Perth.
Tickets are available via the internet at the company website with Standard fares available for $229* one way or $399* return. Limited discounted fares of $69* one way inclusive of taxes for those who are quick as conditions do apply.
"OzJet encourage the public to get behind this great deal, and there is no saying what may happen in the future," remarked Mr. O'Neill.
OzJet provide air services on behalf of the Norfolk Island Government, Airlines of Papua New Guinea and a scheduled service between Perth to Derby. Premium charter flights undertaken have included dignitaries such as the President of Finland and Prime Minister of Cambodia and rock 'n' roll royalty including U2, Pearl Jam and Robbie Williams.
