Orica's Burrup plant nearing completion

Mining explosives and chemicals manufacturer Orica made the final investment for its ammonium nitrate plant in the Pilbara in September, with final state government approvals expected by the end of the year.

The $US800 million plant is located on the Burrup Peninsula north of Karratha and is a joint venture involving Norweigan company Yara International and Apache.

Mechanical commissioning of the plant, which is expected to have an annual output of 330,000 tonnes of the explosives chemical, is complete and all environmental requirements have been met.
