Macquarie recruits Barnaba
Macquarie Group has appointed Perth deal-maker and company director Mark Barnaba as chairman of its WA operations, bolstering its status as one of the top investment banks in WA. The appointment follows Mr Barnaba’s retirement last year from Azure Capital, of which he was co-founder and co-executive chairman, along with his long-time business partner John Poynton. Mr Barnaba is currently chairman of Western Power and not-for-profit business Edge Employment Solutions.
Birkbeck heads Atlas South Sea
Director Stephen Birkbeck has been appointed as chief executive officer of Atlas South Sea Pearl, a WA-based pearl producer with farms across the Indonesian archipelago. Mr Birkbeck is the founder and former CEO of sandalwood oil exporter Mt Romance, and was previously the non-executive chairman of Skill Hire. Stephen Gleeson, who was also previously at Skill Hire, has been appointed as Atlas’ chief financial officer. Simon Adams has stepped down as managing director, but will retain a business development and company secretarial role during the transition phase.
Aberle retires from Western Power
Western Power managing director Doug Aberle has announced he will step down from the power utility after almost 40 years of service. Chairman Mark Barnaba said the board will soon begin the process to find a permanent replacement. Western Power corporate services general manager Paul Italiano will take the reins as acting chief executive in the interim.
Wayne Richards to lead IronClad
Wayne Richards (left) has been appointed as managing director of IronClad Mining. Mr Richards will join IronClad from March 1, as it ramps up development of its Wilcherry Hill iron ore project in South Australia. Prior to this, Mr Richards was managing director of Brockman Resources, and also held a senior executive position at BHP Billiton. Executive chairman Ian Finch will now assume the position in a non-executive capacity.
Pozzi replaces Arnold at REIWA
The Real Estate Institute of WA has appointed chief financial officer Neville Pozzi as chief executive. Mr Pozzi has been with the institute for thirty-four years, and replaces Anne Arnold, who will step down in July after eight years in the position. Mrs Arnold said she was moving on to new challenges, including several new board appointments. She is currently chair of the Heritage Council of WA’s development committee.
