Hemsley replaces Walsh as arts chair
Warwick Hemsley has been appointed as the new chairman of WA’s peak representative arts body, the Chamber of Arts and Culture Western Australia. Mr Hemsley is currently chairman of the WA Opera and a former president of the WA Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA. He served as Peet managing director for 17 years until August 2007 and is now director of Hemsley Investments. Mr Hemsley’s appointment follows the move of incumbent Sam Walsh to London to take up his position of Rio Tinto global chief executive. Janet Holmes a Court continues on as deputy chair at the chamber.
Stirbinskis to head Drake Resources
West African and Scandinavian metals explorer Drake Resources has appointed Jason Stirbinskis as its new chief executive. Mr Stirbinskis will commence in the role immediately, replacing Bob Beeson, who will remain on the board as a non-executive director. Mr Stirbinskis is the former managing director of Phillips River Mining and Central Asia Resources. Prior to that, he was general manager at METS and Simulus. Mr Stirbinskis is honorary consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in WA.
Canterbury to Bauxite
Peter Canterbury has been appointed as chief executive of Bauxite Resources. Mr Canterbury was previously chief financial officer at Sundance Resources and prior to that, at Dadco Europe in the UK. He will lead the company through its next stage of development - commercialising its bauxite exploration tenements and developing two joint venture alumina projects.
Clapham joins Sheffield Property
Mark Clapham has joined Perth-based Sheffield Property, becoming a co-principal with founder Digby Sutherland. Mr Clapham was previously Brookfield Office Properties head of commercial leasing for Australia and New Zealand (see Sheffield shoots for leasing space).
Crabb resumes chair at Thundelarra
Philip Crabb has resumed the position of chairman of Thundelarra Exploration, coming out of retirement to replace Mal Randall in the role due to Mr Randall’s increasing business commitments and workload. Mr Crabb previously chaired the WA and NT minerals explorer, first in an executive capacity and later stepping back to a non-executive role, from its initial listing on the ASX in March 2001 until his retirement in September 2011. Mr Randall will remain a nonexecutive director on the board.
