Winners of E&Y entrepreneur awards
ABN Group managing director Dale Alcock and Carey Mining managing director Daniel Tucker were among the recipients of the 2012 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year western region awards, which were handed out in a ceremony held last Thursday night in Perth. Mr Alcock has grown his ABN Group, started in 1987 with business partner Garry Brown-Neaves, into one of the largest private companies in Western Australia. He won the award in the industry category. Mr Tucker is the services category winner for establishing Carey Mining, a private indigenous mining contractor. Property renovation business Million Dollar Makeovers CEO Sasha de Bretton was the emerging category winner. Glovemaker Performance On Hand owner Damione Wright won in the technology category. Janet Holmes a Court was named champion of entrepreneurship, and researcher Peter Klinken was awarded social entrepreneur status.
Cameron deputy VC at UWA
Alec Cameron has been appointed as deputy vice-chancellor (education) at the University of Western Australia, from the start of next year. Professor Cameron was the inaugural dean of the Australian School of Business at the University of New South Wales and was previously deputy vice-chancellor (resources and infrastructure) there. He has held senior corporate positions at Sun Microsystems Australia, Alcatel Australia and Telstra.
