Old house to fall

A PLAN to demolish the house at 47 Mount Street, West Perth, replacing it with a seven-storey, seven apartment building has been approved by council.

The two-storey house on the site has been entered on council’s Draft Municipal Inventory List.

However, a staff note to council said the existing building’s usability as a residence had been severely diminished by the

surrounding density of development.

Councillor Jennifer MacGill said it seemed a shame to knock down the beautiful buildings in Mount Street.

In the past year, many of the old homes in Mount Street have been demolished and replaced with apartment complexes.
