OTOC wins further $16m Nauru work

Perth-based contractor OTOC has won a further $16 million in construction works at the federal government's migrant processing centre on the Pacific island of Nauru.

OTOC said today that it had been engaged to provide further materials and labour at the processing centre by Brisbane-based construction company Canstruct.

Canstruct awarded OTOC a $28.7 million contract in May to provide works at stage one of the centre, which will house 900 people.

OTOC's new works will include communications and the installation of fire and security systems, in what will be the first piece of government-related work to be carried out by OTOC's newly-formed Remote Communications Division.

"We are particularly pleased to secure a significant contract for the OTOC Communications Division," OTOC chief executive Adam Lamond said.

"OTOC identified this part of the business as a growth area in remote infrastructure and we see this division generating strong growth in coming years."

All of OTOC's awarded works at Nauru are expected to be completed in this financial year.

OTOC shares were up 5 per cent to 10.5 cents at 9:40AM WST.
