Northern plan up for comment

THE Kununurra-Wyndham area is poised to become an important growth hub for northern Australia, according to the draft Kununurra-Wyndham Area Development plan.

Planning Minister Graham Kierath said the area’s economy was built on a wide base including pastoralism, irrigated agriculture, tourism, mining and resource development, fishing and aquaculture.

“Plans to develop Stage 2 of the Ord River Irrigation Area will make this one of Australia’s hubs of primary production,” Mr Kierath said.

The draft development plan is available for public comment until 30 November.
