The founder of collapsed property group Westpoint, Norm Carey, has been given back his licence to operate as a real estate agent, following a successful appeal in the State Administrative Tribunal.
A Department of Consumer and Employment Protection spokesperson confirmed the news to WA Business News, saying Mr Carey will have his triennial certificate renewed.
The Real Estate and Business Agents Supervisory Board had earlier this year refused to renew Mr Carey's licence, reportedly saying that the former Westpoint promoter was not deemed to be a fit and proper person to hold a licence.
However the State Administrative Tribunal overturned that decision, with Mr Carey now holding a licence for the next three years.
Westpoint failed between November 2005 and February 2006, leaving 4,300 mum and dad investors $300 million out of pocket.
