Despite the Western Australian Government’s promise to actively pursue public private partnerships as a way of delivering infrastructure, the Water Corporation will build and own a new $350 million desalinisation plant in Kwinana.
A Water Corporation representative said the option of a PPP had been carefully considered.
“A PPP would not provide substantial benefits to this project because of the need to complete the plant within two years of approval, and limited opportunity for innovation,” the representative said.
“Innovation opportunities are particularly limited because there was little chance of the project being linked to a new power station.”
Work is expected to commence immediately on the plant, which is due to be completed in 2006.
