Tim Shanahan has been elected to the position of chairman of the Australia Day Council of Western Australia. Mr Shanahan has had a long-standing involvement with the ADCWA as an individual member and management committee member. Last year he held the position of vice-chairman. In 2001, Mr Shanahan, a law graduate, was appointed Chamber of Minerals and Energy of Western Australia chief executive. Mr Shanahan was executive director of the Western Australian Municipal Association from 1989-2000, where he established the Local Government Self Insurance Schemes and was an inaugural director of both the Liability and Worker’s Compensation Schemes. Mr Shanahan was awarded the Public Service Medal for outstanding service to Local Government in 2001 and a Centenary Medal for service to local government in 2003.
