Former Bayswater mayor and Ballajura MLA John D’Orazio has quit the Labor party and announced his intention to remain on as an independent. Mr D’Orazio said he planned to contest the new seat of Morley against Labor’s endorsed candidate, former journalist Reece Whitby, in the upcoming election. Mr D’Orazio resigned as police and justice minister in 2006 due to his involvement with Corruption and Crime Commission target Pasquale Minniti, but he rejoined Labor in April after CCC Parliamentary Inspector Malcolm McCusker cleared him of a CCC finding of inappropriate behaviour.
