A new seven-member Taxi Industry Board to determine the future of the industry has been appointed.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced the re-instalment of the board and said the Government wanted a broad cross-section of industry advice.
"We have been working to improve taxi services in the metropolitan area for a number of years now and have found it difficult getting the various vested interests working together for the benefit of consumers," Ms MacTiernan said.
"We need the Taxi Board so we can move forward effectively, bringing levels of performance to Perth which are available in other cities around Australia.
"I am confident the new board has the right mix of experience and business sense to help us create a better and cost-effective service for customers and keep taxi drivers happy, busy and prosperous."
The seven selected board members comprise six men and one woman and were chosen from a field of more than 30 nominees.
The board members are: Maree Alver, Robert Caporn, Kevin Foley, Colin Clune, Kevin Wigg, Phillip Redhead and Greg Wheatley.
The new board is to take effect in April and will be chaired by Ms Maree Alver, who was previously an advocate for customers on the Taxi Customers Advisory Forum.
Last week, the State Government said it would issue 78 new taxi plates in Western Australia over the next three months
