New site for bargains

EXPERIENCES as a house husband led John Boddy to form a business that publishes shopping specials on the Internet.

His company,, was launched on Sunday.

“The only time most retailers advertise is when they have specials,” Mr Boddy said.

Retail advertising is expected to bring revenue into the business.

After taking a redundancy package, and with his wife and two sons working full-time, Mr Boddy found himself responsible for the household chores and shopping.

“I had an allowance for the food shopping and to make it last I started hunting for specials,” he said.

“I found I was going through five different shops to get the best price. After doing that for a while I came up with the idea of collating the specials.

“While I’m not computer illiterate, I didn’t know that much. I just knew dot.coms were doing well.

“I asked people what they thought of the idea and got some good responses.”

Mr Boddy said building the website took three to four months.

The business collates specials for all retailers – everything from whitegoods to groceries.

In the past six months, the business has grown to a staff of 14.

The company opened for one day before the launch and was inundated with interest from manufacturers and retailers.
