New recruit elects to join Majors

JONES Lang Wootton and MLV Real Estate former director Mike Rowe has recently joined Major Corporate Pty Ltd as an equity holder.

Mr Rowe — who has 20 years experience in property — is known as a specialist in industrial properties, suburban commercial and land subdivisions.

His expertise is expected to contribute to the firm that already, through Gerald Major, is involved in commercial CBD and residential unit development, including Kingsgate on St Georges Terrace, a $15 million project.

Mr Major is a former state president of the Property Council of Australia.

Mr Rowe said in the current market it seemed as though commercial agency was polarising, with some of the major commercial firms linking in with mainly US or internationally-backed groups with large staffs or with the smaller boutique firms specialising in certain areas of the market and providing personalised service at a local level.

“There has been a strong growth in this area in the 1990s,” he said. “The larger firms also seem to be becoming more centrally controlled which brings benefits of globalisation but limits in areas of highest expertise and on the ground coverage.

“The trend will be interesting to study who will be the best placed for growth in the final years of this century as the local market returns,” he said.
