The state government has handed over six new public housing units in Queens Park to Access Housing Australia after awarding the not-for-profit organisation the tenancy management contract.
The new units named "Millennium Mews" were designed by Max Selar from Inter Pacific Consultants and were built by BGC Construction.
The units are currently occupied y tenants from the joint community housing and Department of Housing waiting list.
Housing Minister Bill Marmion said the state government continued to work with community housing providers to give them opportunities to build upon existing social housing stocks.
"By engaging community housing providers, we can reduce the pressure on the public housing waiting list by providing alternative, affordable housing options," Mr Marmion said.
"I congratulate Access Housing Australia for their work in providing affordable housing solutions for West Australians on low incomes," he said.

The State Government has strengthened its ties with community housing providers with Access Housing Australia Limited being awarded tenancy management of their 1,000th property in Western Australia this week.
On site in Queens Park, Housing Minister Bill Marmion said the Government continued to work with community housing providers to give them opportunities to build upon existing social housing stocks.
"By engaging community housing providers, we can reduce the pressure on the public housing waiting list by providing alternative, affordable housing options," Mr Marmion said.
"The Government is focused on providing affordable housing options for West Australians and working with community housing providers is an important element of this policy.
"I congratulate Access Housing Australia for their work in providing affordable housing solutions for West Australians on low incomes."
The six units, named 'Millennium Mews', handed over to Access Housing Australia Limited have been funded under the State Community Housing Investment Program on land owned by the Department of Housing.
The units are currently occupied by tenants from the joint community housing and Department of Housing waitlist.
"These units have a 7.5 star energy rating with increased thickness of glass in the doors and windows and heavy duty 'sisalation', a form of insulation, in the roofs to increase thermal and acoustic properties," the Minister said.
"This increased insulation will reduce the need for heating and cooling, saving the residents on gas and electricity costs."
The Queens Park property was designed by Max Selar from Inter Pacific Consultants and built by BGC Construction Pty Ltd. The units were completed on July 13, 2010, four weeks ahead of schedule.
The Government will launch its affordable housing strategy before the end of 2010. The strategy is based on 53 recommendations made by the Social Housing Taskforce and will aim to provide affordable housing to West Australians. The Government aims to provide 20,000 houses by 2020 through public and private partnerships.
